Sciath na Scol
Following is the schedule for the Sciath na Scol matches:
Tuesday 2nd of October in Coachford GAA v Tirelton and Rusheen.  The bus will leave at 10.15am and will be home before 2.30pm, please remit €5 per child and fill out the permission slip. 
Thursday 4th of October v Ringaskiddy and Ballyvongane in Vicarstown NS.
Rubgy
Due to the fine weather we availed of an opportunity to run a four week Rugby course which started last Tuesday for children from 3rd to 6th class.  The scheme will continue on the following dates: Friday 5th, Tuesday 9th and Tuesday 16th of October.  Tracksuit should be worn on those dates.
School Garden – Tasting produce
Could all children bring in a plastic bowl and a fork to school tomorrow, to taste some yummy garlic potatoes from the school garden.
Accommodation
Our first prefab has been ready for use since Monday.  Thankfully, it is a lovely space and 5th and 6th class are settling in very well.  The 2nd prefab, which will house our Early Intervention ASD Class should be ready for Monday morning. Again it is an excellent space and we are very happy with them both.
Homework Club
There will be no Homework Club on Monday coming as all staff are attending a talk on epilepsy.
Junior and Senior Infant Health Screen
The HSE asked us to distribute forms and/or  packs to all Junior and Senior Infants last week, for vaccines, sight screening etc.  Please return the forms ASAP if you have not already done so, thank you!
Headlice
We have had a report of headlice in the school, please be vigilant and treat hair if you see anything.
 
Local News
The Playground Committee are all set in Ballyanly to host the Official Opening of the Playground this Saturday, the 29th of September from 2-5pm. All welcome.
 
Inniscarra Historical Society presents: Nurses in World War I – a presentation by Marie McCarthy in Inniscarra Community Centre, Ballyanly, on 3rd October 2018 at 8pm. All welcome.

Sacraments
The Parish Confirmation will be held on 3rd of April (at 1pm for us).
Sciath na Scol
We have our first Sciath match scheduled for next week on Thursday v Ringaskiddy at 12.30pm on the school pitch.
School Lunches
Please see below from our Healthy Eating Policy.  Thanks for your cooperation.
Normal lunch

1. The following foods do not support a healthy lunch policy and should be excluded from your child’s lunch box; crisps, chewing gum, sweets, bars including cereal bars, cakes, biscuits, lollipops, chocolate, chocolate spread, winders, pretzels, chocolate yogurts and deserts, rice pudding,
   Wednesday Lunch (treat day)
2. A small treat is allowed on Wednesdays. This should only be a small item such as a mini chocolate bar, a small pack of sweets, a small slice of cake, a mini muffin etc. Large bags of sweets for sharing are not allowed except for special party occasions.
3. Children are not allowed to bring chewing gum or crisps to school.
   Headlice
   We have had a report of head lice in the school, please be vigilant and treat as soon as you spot anything.  Also please let school know should you find head lice.
   Parents’ Association Meeting
   The next meeting of the Parents’ Association will take place on tonight at 8pm in the school.   There is a separate note from the Parents’ Association Committee attached.
   Card Drive
   Many thanks to Rita O’Regan and Vicarstown Card Drive for their generous donation of €300.  This money will be put towards the purchase of new sports jerseys.  We are currently running a competition for the best designed jersey, the design will be used as a basis for our new jersey.  The Card Drive is on every Tuesday night at 8.30pm in the school.  They are always looking for new players.  Everybody is welcome and training is provided.
   Local News
   The Official Opening of Ballyanly playground will be held on Saturday the 22nd September from 2 to 5pm. It will be a free afternoon of fun and games for all. The fundraising committee is hugely grateful for all the support and help we received during this project.  We would love to see you there!

Dear Parents and Guardians,
 
Sciath na Scol
Football training is up and running and matches should be beginning next week.  Players will receive a separate note next week.
Interactive panels
We are delighted to have three new Interactive Panels ready for use in the school.  We hope to have all interactive whiteboards upgraded to interactive panels during the school year. 
Accommodation
Work is to begin on Monday morning regarding our prefab accommodation.  There should be no disruption to our normal school activity during this time but please be aware of the ongoing work during the next fortnight.
Vex IQ
We are very happy to be entering the VEX IQ programme again this year after the success we had two years ago.  Mr. O’Brien has attended the VEX IQ seminar and is ready for action.
New School Jerseys
We are currently preparing an order for new school jerseys, kindly sponsored by the 45 Card Drive.  Children from 3rd to 6th class are asked to send in a design by tomorrow please.
Parents’ Association Meeting
The next meeting of the Parents’ Association will take place on Thursday 13th at 8pm.   We would encourage one parent per family to attend.  This is a great opportunity for new parents to meet other parents from the school community.  All welcome!

Courtbrack Vintage Society will host the Inaugural GEORGE SPILLETT Memorial Vintage Road Run this Sunday, 9th September to remember our dear friend who sadly passed away just over a year ago. Gathering in Courtbrack at 10.30am, leaving at 11.30.  We will also host our Annual Old Time Threshing & Vintage Display on the same day, from 2-6pm. Admission free. Great family fun day out for the whole community!
